Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where are you based? How do you spend your days?

Hi I'm Laney! I'm based in Sebastopol, California - my husband and I moved here 5 years ago after living together in Los Angeles where I owned a vintage clothing label selling primarily old levi's, mid-century European workwear and basics like vintage t-shirts which were really fun to source and photograph. I rented a beautiful loft in downtown Los Angeles to use as a showroom and photography studio. I spent a few seasons showing with A Current Affair markets in LA and San Francisco. I grew up in Kansas City, Missouri which was the location of my first storefront opened in 2013 - it was a general store concept, but I soon closed it to move to Los Angeles in 2016.

I am expecting our first child this winter and we are building our home on land that used to be an old dairy, so there is a barn and pasture where we graze cattle. I am a birth and postpartum doula these days and spend a lot of my time in the kitchen preparing nourishing meals for new mothers and families. Over the years, I haven't been able to stay away from the clothes - rotating my closet & vintage finds through my online store and now my Noihsaf shop.

How did you hear about Noihsaf Bazaar / when did you become a part of the community?

I started following Noihsaf Bazaar back in early 2018 when it was solely based on Instagram. I still have posts saved from that time and sometimes I scroll down just to visit the colors and shapes of the clothes I loved and still love. I will search the internet for those pieces I missed out on - because nothing haunts you like the used clothes you didn't buy 🙃

What is your favorite Noihsaf score?

So many! But my most worn jeans are a pair of custom remade barrel leg Levi's - I get so many compliments - like B-Sides but better! Also a custom indigo tie-dyed Acne Studios Cales double coat.

Do you have any tips or advice for folks interested in selling on Noihsaf?

If you follow your intuition and inspiration, you cannot fail. I like to list in the afternoons so the pieces are listed first thing the next morning. Modeling always helps too - and having a cohesive, well-organized 'shop' that is pleasing to the eye.

How would you describe your personal style? Do you have any style inspirations that you return to?

My personal style is all about texture, pattern and color based on my mood. It has to feel good on my body - I mostly wear natural and organic fibers. I have always loved a vintage silk kimono over jeans, or a plant-dyed piece by Maria Calderon or Charlotte Dupont of Honeydove Vintage. Prism of Threads used to make a hand-dyed caftan that I wish I had more of. I have gotten into plant-dying myself over the years - I like to notice which colors I'm drawn to and use them as a cue to which chakras need tending.

I find I always return to the 2012-16 era when small brands like Pansy, Ilana Kohn, Kelci Potter, Are Studio, Beatrice Valenzuela and the Echo Park Craft fair were getting their start. It was the early years of Moon Juice and the General Store in Venice - I'm always inspired by Serena Mitnik-Miller. Paige Appel opened Midland Shop. I still have so many pieces from that era.

Do you have any designers/brands that you're especially into these days?

See above 😊 I especially love Maria Calderon's pieces.

What trend are you currently loving, or what trend would you like to see?

The trend toward organic fibers!

Favorite song to play when getting dressed?

I like to listen to the birds!
