Why does USPS say my shipping label is “unpaid” when they scan the QR code?
Occasionally, USPS systems take a little time to recognize newly generated shipping labels.
After you purchase a label and generate the QR code, there can be a 30–60 minute delay before USPS fully registers the postage as paid. If the QR code is scanned immediately at the counter, the register may show an “Unpaid Shipping” error, even though the label was purchased successfully.
What to do:
• Wait 30–60 minutes after purchasing your label before bringing it to USPS.
• If you’re already at the post office, you can ask the clerk to use their handheld scanner for a “Prepaid Acceptance” scan, which often works even if the main register shows the error.
What if I already canceled my label?
If you canceled the label due to this error, you’ll need to generate a new one. Refunds for canceled labels typically take up to 14 days to process through USPS.
